Purdue and Dominican Republic Partner to Propel Semiconductor Industry Growth

Purdue University and the Dominican Republic have signed a memorandum of understanding to bolster the semiconductor industry in the Caribbean and support near-shoring efforts.

Introduction

In an era marked by rapid technological advancements and increasing geopolitical tensions, the semiconductor industry has become a critical focal point for economic growth and technological sovereignty. In a significant move to bolster the semiconductor industry in the Caribbean and support near-shoring efforts of America’s microchip ecosystem, Purdue University and the government of the Dominican Republic have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

This collaboration is a win-win for both sides.

  • The Dominican Republic gets a much-needed boost to develop its microchip and microelectronics industries. Purdue will provide expertise and resources to help them build a strong foundation.
  • Purdue, a leader in semiconductor research and education in the US, strengthens its global partnerships and contributes to the “near-shoring” of American chip production. This means more chips being made in the Americas, reducing reliance on overseas manufacturing.

This partnership aims to accelerate the growth of the microchip and microelectronics sectors in the Dominican Republic while fostering joint research and academic exchange opportunities.
